Gleann Dá Loch and County Wicklow - Ireland Roadtrip Part 2

On our first day with the car we ventured from Dublin to the Wicklow Mountains and then on to Gleann Dá Loch, a glacial valley. Our first stop was at some beautiful waterfalls for coffee in our sparkling new Keep Cups!

Before long we were met with some rainy weather. Thankfully we had the option to wait 5 minutes in the car for the rain to subside. It is hard not to be just a little smug when your carpark neighbours are getting back into the car as you get out and the weather clears up!

Gleann Dá Loch (Glendalough) means the valley of the two lochs. It is the site of an early medieval monastic settlement founded in the 6th century and remnants of this time still remain. We spent most of our time walking around enjoying the hills and relative calm of the place, however we did explore some of the monuments. I found the gatehouse of granite arches, the entrance to the settlement, the most majestic. We probably would have benefited from a tour around the area to learn more but enjoyed our time all the same. Peering through the trees at a doe looking after its fawn was another highlight.
